Three easy steps to choose a projector screen. Step1: Choose a screen type.          There are mainly 3 projector screen types.  Electric screen  Electric screen is that can descend and ascend back into the casing electronically. Often they are operated by remote control. Electric cases may be externally mounted to the ceiling, or recessed into the ceiling. They may also be mounted to the wall, both wall and ceiling or ascend up from the floor.  Manual screen Manual screen is less expensive than electric screen. Just like electric screens, they are available in ceiling, wall, both ceiling and wall, or floor-mounted models. They are operated by hand, and therefore are subject to more wear and tear. Tripod/Portable Screen Tripod Screen is the most affordable entry level portable presentation screen. These are ideal for business show, portable classroom, Travel, church congregation and large group home theater presentations. 　 Step 2  Choose the screen surface Choosing the right screen surface type is important to maximize the quality of the image. The most important quality of a specific surface is its gain. Gain is a measurement of how reflective a screen is. The higher the gain, the brighter the image is. There are many different projector screens, each of them has unique qualities.  Two typical screen surfaces are:  Matte White screen surface 1.3Gain Matte White screen surface is the most versatile and uniform screen surface for front projection and has perfect diffusion for wide viewer distribution. This material is best used when ambient light is controllable and enables unlimited viewing angles with perfect uniformity while giving precise definition and color reproduction. Screen surface is washable with mild soap and water.  Perfect solution for all your standard video format display needs. Glass Beaded screen surface 2.5 Gain Glass Beaded screen surface has the ability to achieve a higher gain and provide an unparalleled screen surface for vibrant, lifelike color reproduction at moderate viewing angles. It is not recommended for areas where the screen will be subject to abuse or soiling. 　 Step 3 Choose the Screen format and size Screen format refers to the proportion of width to height of a particular screen. The size of wall or other places that you mount the screen will decide the screen size. You can either use width and height to choose the screen, or you can use screen diagonal,  which is measured from the upper right corner to the bottom left corner, or from the upper left corner to the bottom right corner of the actual screen. There are three most popular formats on the market.   HDTV 16:9 format This motorized screen has a width to height ratio of 16:9. This matches the specifications for widescreen viewing, and is therefore best for home theater set-ups with HDTV capabilities. Square 1:1 format This screen has a width to height ratio of 1:1. This screen is ideal for presentations and uses with overhead projectors. Square screen may be partially descended, thereby changing the aspect ratio. For example, if you pull a ceiling mounted square screen only half-way down, the width dimension remains the same, but the height is half. This could be useful for more widescreen applications. 4:3 format This format screen has a width to height ratio of 4:3. It can be used as 16:9 format too.
