Choosing the Right Greenhouse for Your Garden

Popular Greenhouse Types We carry a few different types of greenhouses; cold frames, portables (various sizes/configurations), and more permanent walk-in greenhouses. If you just need to protect a few new shoots from lingering frost blasts, perhaps a cold frame is right for you. Portables are easy to build, tear down, and move as needed, but polycarbonate-paneled walk-ins are a better long-term option. What about next year, and the year after? Consider what you’ll be growing and how much space it will require, and also your future gardening plans. If you have room to spare, a larger greenhouse may be the better call. You can start off using the growing space you need, but will have room to expand later without upgrading your greenhouse! Plant needs / Temperature What will your plants need to flourish? Research and consider the optimal temperatures they’ll want, and the weather patterns specific to where you live. How cold is your spring, how hot your summer? Make sure the greenhouse you go with has vents, which can be opened to regulate the temperature inside – overheating can be just as dangerous as the cold. The answer entirely depends on your locale and plans – plotting (sorry!) your growing plan can be fun, and forethought will reward you with delicious produce later. Weather resistance Apart from temperature needs, you also must keep durability in mind. What kind of storms does your area get, how windy? What about hail? In a true weather emergency your greenhouse shouldn’t be at the forefront of your worries, but you should keep your area’s weather in mind when choosing a greenhouse. Polycarbonate is thicker and heavier, making PC-paneled greenhouses more resilient to strong winds, and more durable in general, but also more work to stow away if need be. If serious inclement weather is incoming, really plants should come inside temporarily and the greenhouse should be stowed in the garage. Once Christmastime rolls around, everyone scrambles to find the best Christmas decorations and inflatables — we all want to come up with the best possible holiday-themed decor. However, immersing your home in the Santa-themed atmosphere isn’t as simple as it seems — there are tons of options out there, and combining them into an aesthetically pleasing display requires some knowledge and forethought. With that in mind, Aosom put together this handy guide on Christmas decorations to help you out! Important features Type of decoration Lighting Materials Theme Different Christmas decorations Before you set out to buy your Christmas decorations, you should consider what kind of individual pieces you want. One of the biggest staples of your outdoor decor is likely going to be inflatables — they’re easy to set up, and they don’t take up a lot of space when it’s time to put them back in storage. However, you should consider the space around your yard carefully — an 11-foot Christmas castle will take up more room than a single inflatable Santa Claus. Just be careful not to put them near branches, bushes, or really any trees that could potentially poke and scratch the inflatables and damage them. Also, these require access to an electrical outlet, though most come with at least a 10-foot cord. You should also consider some Christmas wreaths and garlands that can be placed directly on your doors, windows, and home facade — as well as LED lighting strings and Christmas-themed lanterns. Lighting Any type of Christmas decor is far less pretty if you don’t light it up — which is why lighting is always a crucial part of any holiday display. And while we’ve already mentioned LED strings, remember — when it comes to Christmas lights, there’s no such thing as too much! Go wild with shining stars on your doors and light strings that run the entire length of your walls. And don’t forget the lighting on your inflatables and other decorative pieces in your yard! Ideally, you want to get inflatables that already have their own internal LED lighting; that way, you won’t need to cover them up with additional strings to really make them pop. Materials While the aesthetic appeal of your holiday decorations is important — you shouldn’t disregard other factors while choosing your Christmas decorations either. For instance: what kind of materials were used to manufacture them? This is vital, regardless of what specific piece of decor we’re talking about. When it comes to wooden figurines, you want high-quality, durable wood that’s also been polished and coated with a weather-resistant finish; this will ensure you don’t have to throw it away after a couple of weeks in the snow, rain, and cold. Plus, you want any figurines or inflatables you buy to have a stable and sturdy base, so you can place them anywhere in your home or yard without worrying they’ll constantly be falling over. And speaking of inflatables — seeing as you’re most likely to place them outside, you want them to be as durable as possible. This means only buying the ones that were made with water-resistant, IP44-rated polyester fabric; otherwise, the winter weather will make them unusable pretty quickly. You want the same kind of IP44 weatherproofing on any LED light frames for maximum durability — the floor stake design is perfect for outdoor use, as is a waterproof steel frame. Theme If you’re looking for a specific Christmas theme for your outdoor decorations, there are some elements that most decor options have in common. For instance, there’s the scene depicting the birth of Jesus — you can find it depicted in figurines, animated sets, and even inflatables. Of course, an obvious one is Santa Claus. And there’s a surprising number of options here, from a classic Santa or a scene depicting him with his reindeers and sleigh to the wackier varieties like Santa driving a Christmas-themed airplane or his holiday car. There are also all kinds of North-Pole-themed inflatables and centerpieces — from giant snowglobes to penguins depicting building their cartoonish igloos, along with every possible kind of Christmas tree you can think of. Gingerbread men, castles, and polar bears are also commonly depicted in Christmas decor. Pricing Finally, as with any other kind of shopping — buying Christmas decor also means thinking about the appropriate prices. So, what kind of money should you expect to pay for your holiday decorations? Naturally, all of this depends on your personal preferences and budget — some people don’t like to spend a lot of money on holiday decorations and opt for a more modest display. How to Install Your Sliding Barn Door
Looking to update your home with a fresh new look? Installing a sliding closet door can be a frustrating and time intensive endeavor if you don’t know where to begin. This is a fast quick start guide that will help you understand exactly what you need to do in order to install your new sliding barn door kit. *Feel free to Scroll Down to reach the FAQ Section Things You’ll Need [one_third] Pencil [/one_third][one_third] 3/4″ Wrench [/one_third][one_third] 1/8″ Drill bit [/one_third] [one_third] Philips Screw Driver [/one_third][one_third] Laser or Level [/one_third][one_third] Power Drill[/one_third] [one_third] Stud Finder [/one_third][one_third] 9/16″ Socket Wrench [/one_third][one_third] 3/8″ Drill Bit [/one_third] [tline] Models that Aosom Carries Step 1: Perform a Clearance Check Before you mount the track, you need to measure to see if there is sufficient clearance for your corresponding hanger. Keep in mind that everyone’s door spacing is different so make sure that you take the time and save yourself a lot of frustration by checking your available clearance first. The following table shows the estimated minimum clearance needed between the top of the door and the ceiling line. Step 2: Check for Wall Support Oftentimes your door frame will have an internal horizontal support beam that you will be able to use to mount your sliding barn door. However, you want to be safe and use a stud finder, to check if you have adequate support in order to accommodate for the weight and movement of the door(s). Using a pencil, be sure to mark the center of where you found your wall stud. Be sure to line up the holes on the metal track railing to where you marked on the wall with your pencil. If you find that one hole is not lined up with the anchor, you will need to purchase a wall anchor to safely secure the railing to the wall. Step 3: Assemble the Door and Mount With your hole positions marked with a pencil, you are ready to proceed with the next few steps. Setup your power drill and attach the correct drill bit. From the face to the door, you need to drill a pilot hole through the face of the door. Drill a clearance hole. Place the hanger over the mounting holes and square it to the door. Insert the correct hex bolts, and washers from the back of the door. Now that your Hanger is attached to the door, you will need to hang the hanger on the metal rail. Step 4: Install the Floor Guide Bottom floor guides are what keep the door from swinging in and out. There are three different types of bottom guides, the T-Guide, C-Guide and the Wall Mounted Stay Roller. Of these three guides, only the T-Guide requires door preparation. *At this moment Aosom ONLY carries sliding barn door kits with T-Guide’s. Each of the doors will come with a single T-Guide floor guide, floor anchors and screws. As a result, your selected door will need to have a T-Guide incension pre-cut in at the bottom. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a router in order to manually cut your own T-Guide guide. FAQ [faq] 1. Do the sliding barn door kits come with a door? A. No. You will need to supply your own door of your choice. 2. Can I use one kit to hang two doors? A. No. The kits are designed to help you evenly distribute the weight as you open and close your sliding barn door day-after-day. Each kit comes with 2 hangers that are meant to be used on a single door. 3. Do the kits work without taking off existing door molding? A. Yes. The each sliding barn door kit comes with several Standoff Base pieces that will allow the door to have the proper amount of clearance to slide left and right without rubbing against the wall. 4. Are the rollers metal or plastic? A. To keep from causing excessive wear and reducing the overall level of noise that is inherent with the friction that comes with metal on metal, we have designed the roller wheels to be durable hard plastic. 5. How much headroom is needed? A. It will vary. Since each living space is different, you will need to take measurements of your current space and use the Estimated Clearing Chart found above in Step 1. 6. Can I combine kits to make it longer? A. Absolutely! Keep in mind that each kit fits only one door. So if you are looking to install two or more doors you would need to do the following: Determine the center of the doorway and adjust your track railings appropriately. Start with mounting a single door first. Then slide it to the left to begin on subsequent doors. Once installed your doors should be flush with one another and meet evenly in the center. 7. What is the opening size or door size can be used? A. It will vary. Depending on the model you’ve purchased, the door size would need to be half of the total length of the rail. For optimal clearance, you need to purchase a sliding barn door kit model that is double in length of the opening that you are working with. 8. Can you lock the door? A. We have had customers report that they had great success adding a swing lock to their doors to achieve this function in the past. 9. Can the track be cut? A. We do not recommend cutting the metal tracks as any modifications voids the warranty. 10. Can the floor guide work on tile? A. The materials that come standard with the sliding barn door kit does not support tile installation. You would need to purchase additional equipment (ie: proper drill bit & floor anchors) to install properly. Please see the Recommended Installation Surface Checklist below: 11.
