Why a Home Gym is Better than a Gym Membership

I can tell you why Home Gyms are better than tradition gyms in one word – CONSISTENCY

It doesn’t matter how long that morning run was 3 weeks ago. If you don’t have the proper consistency in your workout routine, sadly you are on the fast track to failure. Trust me; we understand that at one point or another this year you said to yourself, “I need to get back to the gym.”

However, if you are like most individuals that have an office job, weight gain can be your worst enemy all year long. Long hours at work, mixed with the complexities of being a functioning adult and/or a parent, make it difficult to find time to get to the gym consistently before seeing any real results.  Well… you’ll see losses, but it won’t be from your waistline! The graph below outlines how much people spend each year on their membership dues at top 3 gym chains in the country:

Keep in mind that many of these fees don’t factor in up charges like:

“What do I need to get started with my Home Gym?”

1) Make a Space

Dedicate a space in your home for your new gym equipment. You may not know it yet, but clearing out enough space in your home to complete your workouts is a big win! By having a dedicated space in your home to workout you are not only exhibiting a great amount of discipline, but you are also laying down the foundation for you to develop better results.

2) Stick to a Budget

Starting a home gym can seem like both an expensive and daunting task. Remember, this is an investment. If you commit to a weekly routine using your home gym, it will quickly be a small amount of money in comparison to any gym membership as time goes on.

Stick to a budget. You’d be surprised that you can have a great home gym for just a couple of hundred bucks. First, you’ll need to determine what home gym equipment you’ll need to get started.

3) Aim for Short  and Consistent Workouts

Lastly, once you have your new home gym set up, don’t spend all day in there! Set up a timer and look at your home workouts as a fun challenge before your favorite TV show comes on. As opposed to a terrible 2 hour prison sentence! Again, keep your workouts fast and fun.

Getting in a good 20 – 30 minute, high-intensity home gym session will increase both your aerobic and anaerobic endurance while burning off that stubborn fat.
