The HOMCOM Baroque Fireplace Mantel Surround brings the warmth and character of a classic fireplace to any room without the cost or complexity of a built-in installation. This assembly instruction walks you through every step of setting it up, from laying out your parts to securing it safely to the wall, so you can have it standing and ready in about 30 minutes.

Important Notes Before You Start

- Lay out all parts on a clean, flat surface and check them against the parts list below.
- Do not use the mantel surround until all assembly steps are fully complete and all bolts are tight.
- Having a second person with you makes the process easier and safer.
- Tighten all bolts firmly but avoid over-tightening, which can crack the wood panels.
- Keep all small hardware items, including bolts, washers, and wall anchors, away from young children.

Step-by-Step Assembly Instructions
Follow the four steps below in order. Each step builds on the last to give you a stable, finished HOMCOM Baroque Fireplace Mantel Surround (SKU:820-462V80WT).
Step 01: Attach the Left Side Column to the Top Rail

- Stand the Left Side Column (B) upright on a padded surface so the decorative panel faces forward.
- Bring the Top Rail (A) to the top of the column and align the pre-drilled bolt holes on the left side of the rail with the matching holes on the column.
- Place one Flat Washer (E) onto each of the four Flat-Head Bolts (D), sliding it up to the bolt head.
- Insert each bolt-and-washer set into the holes and hand-tighten so the pieces are held together but can still be adjusted.
- Use the Allen Key (F) to fully tighten all four bolts. Work in a diagonal pattern, starting top left, then bottom right, top right, and bottom left, to keep the joint even and square.
Step 02: Attach the Right Side Column to the Top Rail

- Hold the Right Side Column (C) upright with the decorative panel facing forward, matching the orientation of the left column.
- Slide the open right end of the Top Rail (A) onto the top of the Right Side Column (C), aligning the bolt holes on both pieces.
- Thread one Flat Washer (E) onto each of the four remaining Flat-Head Bolts (D).
- Insert all four bolt-and-washer sets into the holes and hand-tighten to hold the pieces in position.
- Use the Allen Key (F) to fully tighten all four bolts, again working in a diagonal pattern.
Note: After both columns are attached, stand the assembled mantel upright and confirm both side columns are flush with the top rail and sitting level before moving on.
Step 03: Stand the Assembled Mantel Upright and Check Alignment

- With a second person helping, carefully stand the fully assembled surround upright on the floor in front of the wall where it will be installed.
- Check that both base blocks sit flat on the floor with no rocking. If the mantel rocks, re-tighten all eight bolts.
- Check that the gap between the two side columns is even from top to bottom, confirming the surround is square.
- Position the surround flush against the wall in its final location.
Step 04: Secure the Mantel Surround to the Wall
For safety, the assembled mantel must be anchored to the wall using the Wall Anchors (G) and Wall Screws (H).

- With the mantel held against the wall in its final position, mark the two wall anchor points through the pre-drilled holes on the back of each side column, one hole per column, near the top.
- Set the mantel aside and drill a hole at each mark using a drill bit sized for the Wall Anchors (G).
- Tap one Wall Anchor (G) into each drilled hole with a hammer until it sits flush with the wall surface.
- Move the mantel back into position against the wall, aligning the column holes with the installed wall anchors.
- Drive one Wall Screw (H) through each column hole and into the wall anchor using a head screwdriver. Tighten until snug.
Assembly is now complete.

Assembly Check (Before Use)
Run through all the checks below before placing anything on the mantel shelf or inserting a fireplace unit.
- Both side columns sit flat on the floor with no rocking or gaps underneath.
- The top rail is level and the mantel shelf surface is flat and even.
- The surround does not shift or lean when you apply light pressure from the front.
- Both wall screws are snug and the surround is fully secured to the wall.
- The decorative carved panel on the top rail faces forward and is undamaged.
Safety & Usage Notes
- This mantel surround is decorative only. It is not a heat shield. Always follow the clearance distances specified by your electric fireplace insert manufacturer.
- Do not place candles, open flames, or heat-producing items directly on the mantel shelf.
- Do not exceed the weight capacity of the mantel shelf. Avoid placing heavy items at the outer edges.
- The wall anchoring step is required in homes with children or pets. Do not skip it.
- Periodically check all bolts and re-tighten with the Allen Key (F) if any movement is felt.
Maintenance Tips
- White finish: Wipe with a lightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads, which can dull or scratch the painted surface.
- Carved panel: Use a soft brush or dry cloth to remove dust from the ornamental detailing on the top rail. Avoid directing water into the carved grooves.
- Bolts and joints: Check all eight bolts every few months and re-tighten with the Allen Key (F) if any looseness is felt, especially if the surround is moved or bumped.
- Wall anchors: Inspect the wall screws (H) periodically. If a screw becomes loose, remove it, re-insert the wall anchor (G), and drive the screw back in firmly.

FAQs
Absolutely. The surround is purely decorative and works just as well as a standalone accent piece. Many people place a basket of logs, candles on a tray, or decorative objects inside the opening to create a cozy fireplace look without any insert at all.
The included wall anchors are designed for standard drywall. If your wall is plaster or masonry, you will need to pick up anchors rated for those materials at a hardware store. The hole size and screw type will also differ, so check the anchor packaging for the correct drill bit size.
Yes. The engineered wood surface takes paint well. Lightly sand the existing finish with 220-grit sandpaper, wipe away dust with a tack cloth, then apply a primer coat before your chosen color. Use a small foam roller on flat panels and a brush for the carved detailing on the top rail to avoid losing the definition of the ornamental design.
No floor pads are included in the box. If you are placing the surround on hardwood, tile, or any scratch-sensitive floor, pick up a set of self-adhesive felt furniture pads before assembly and apply one to the underside of each base block before standing it upright.
