Step 1: Attach the Backrest to the Seat

Diagram demonstrating the attachment of a spindled backrest to a chair seat with bolts.

  • Begin by placing the Seat (B) on a flat surface with the pre-drilled holes facing upward.
  • Take the Backrest (A) and position it at the rear edge of the seat so that the two vertical support posts align with the mounting holes on the seat panel.
  • Insert the 35mm Bolts (2) through the holes at the base of the seat and into the backrest.
  • Using the Allen Key (4), tighten the bolts lightly to secure the backrest in place.
  • Repeat this step one more time for the second chair.

Step 2: Install the Arm Rests

  • With the Backrest (A) already attached to the Seat (B), position the two Arm Rests (C) on both sides of the seat frame.
  • Align the armrests so the vertical supports sit in the pre-drilled holes on the seat and the rear ends connect to the sides of the backrest posts.
  • Insert the 55mm Screws (1) through the outer mounting holes of the armrests to secure them to the backrest frame and seat base as shown in image.
  • Then insert the 45mm Screws (3) through the lower connection points to secure the armrests to the seat base.
  • Use the Allen Key (4) to tighten the screws until the armrests are firmly attached.
  • Repeat this step one more time for the second chair.

Step 3: Assemble the Leg Frame Structure

  • Place the Front Leg Frames (D) and Back Leg Frames (E) on a flat surface as shown in the diagram.
  • Position the frames so that the upper mounting rails align parallel to each other. Then place the Stretchers (F) between the leg frames to connect the front and back sections of the base structure.
  • Align all pre-drilled holes where the leg frames and stretchers meet.
  • Insert the 55mm Screws (1) through the connection points to secure the leg frames and stretchers together.
  • Use the Allen Key (4) to tighten the screws until the frame becomes stable.
  • Repeat this step one more time for the second chair.

Step 4: Attach the Rockers

  • Take the two Rockers (G) and position them along the bottom ends of the Front Leg Frames (D) and Back Leg Frames (E). Make sure the curved sides of the rockers face downward to allow the chair to rock smoothly.
  • Align the pre-drilled holes on the rockers with the holes at the bottom of the leg frames.
  • Insert the 45mm Screws (3) through the holes in the rockers and into the leg frames.
  • Using the Allen Key (4), tighten the screws until the rockers are securely attached.
  • Repeat this step one more time for the second chair.

Step 5: Attach the Seat Assembly to the Rocking Base

Diagram showing 35mm bolts (2) connecting a chair seat frame to the rocking base.

  • With the rocking base structure fully assembled, carefully lift the Seat Assembly (which includes the Backrest (A), Seat (B), and Arm Rests (C)) and position it on top of the base frame.
  • Align the mounting holes underneath the Seat (B) with the holes on the upper rails of the leg frame structure.
  • Insert the 35mm Bolts (2) through the aligned holes from the underside of the frame into the seat base.
  • Use the Allen Key (4) to tighten the bolts evenly, ensuring the seat assembly is securely connected to the rocking base.
  • Repeat this step one more time for the other chair.
  • Once all bolts are installed, go back and fully tighten all screws and bolts across the entire chair to complete the assembly.

Now your rocker chairs are ready to use.

FAQs

1. Can porch rocking chairs be used indoors as well as outdoors?

Yes, porch rocking chairs can be used both indoors and outdoors depending on their material and design. Many wooden or metal rocking chairs work well on patios, porches, living rooms, or sunrooms. Using floor protectors indoors can help prevent scratches while maintaining smooth rocking.

2. What is the best surface to place a porch rocking chair on?

A flat, stable surface such as a wooden deck, concrete patio, porch floor, or indoor hardwood floor works best for rocking chairs. Even ground helps maintain smooth rocking motion and prevents tipping. Avoid placing rocking chairs on uneven surfaces or soft grass.

3. Are rocking chairs good for relaxing your back?

Rocking chairs can help relax back muscles by promoting gentle movement that reduces pressure on the spine. The rhythmic motion can improve circulation and relieve tension after long sitting periods. Chairs with supportive backrests and armrests provide the most comfort.
